How to apply

Please fill in the application form above so we can send further details to you. We are currently accepting applications throughout the year. Our Autumn term rehearsals start on 17 Sep 2025. There is no audition process as such — we ask you to send a shot video of you playing so that so we can get to know your playing. It is not so much about getting “in” to the orchestra. If you have any queries or if you would like to pop into a rehearsal to see what it’s like, do just email us.

Performance Video

The purpose of the performance video is not so much to audition but to get to know your playing. We ask for a short video of you playing something of your choosing. There is no need for you to play a complete piece, but pick something which you feel represents your playing well. The video can be transferred to us at info@northlondonyouthorchestra.org using WeTransfer. Accompaniment is optional.

Playing Standard

The expected standard is approximately Grade 7+ for wind and brass players. Clarinettists should have a pair of instruments (A and Bb); trumpet and horn players should have some transposing experience and trombonists should have met the tenor clef. For strings and percussion, the level is Grade 6+. There is no need to have taken exams.

That said, we are an inclusive community orchestra and there may always be room for finding a part fo you even if you have not reached these standards.

Video Guidance

You don’t need expensive equipment to record your audition – recording on a phone is perfectly fine. Set up in a room where you can feel comfortable and choose something to play that you enjoy performing.
